The biggest lesson I took from Saturday was how hard it is to run a PUG raid. I realized very quickly that the planning that had been done, the conversations that I had had with the officers in the guild, the strategies that we had studied meant very little to our PUG raiders. People who have been through the raid 50 times, or are uber geared from BWL, MC, etc. don't care to follow a novice raid leader. As a virgin raid leader, I figured out pretty quickly that my best option was to hand off the reins to a more experienced PUG player. I would still like to try directing this instance at some point, but my feeling is that it should be an all-guild run, or at least close to it.
One of the things that I am hoping to get out of these early raids is the experience of building a solid group dynamic. That means that the 20 people in the group are all on the same page because we've all learned the raids together, sharing success and failure. That is the strength we bring to Scholo, Strat, even UBRS. I know that we can build our raiding numbers and carry that dynamic in to ZG.
The second thing I was very aware of during the run was our need for more stringent agro management. I noticed it especially during the spider fight. The OT seemed to be having a rough time grabbing agro on the boss because our ranged DPS was so high in the agro queue. It seems to me that the spider fight is designed specifically to test that aspect of the party. I think we'll be more successful in that fight on our next attempt if we're conscious of agro management. KLH Threatmeter is awesome for tracking that. Thanks to Mormont for showing us that tool.
We have a lot of mid-level toons in guild right now. Let's get some runs going mid-week to level those guys quickly so we can have an all-guild raid group soon. I have had the pleasure of chatting with a few of our new additions and they seem like a good fit with our brand of geekery.
For what it’s worth, I’d rather wipe while our potential raid leaders are learning, than get run through by an “experienced” PUG raid leader. Ronin is strong because we all have a desire to learn these encounters, not get run through. Some of us want to lead raids, some of us just want to get better at our class, but whatever the case, we work through it in guild. The guys that wanted to be run through all moved to Shadow Blade.
I think we should continue with Ronin leading. Quality PUGers, who may know how to lead, will let us run it and make suggestions in raid chat, or better via tells to the raid leader. For example, the Paladin that joined us for the Bat boss helped us take her down yet didn’t insist on being promoted to raid leader.
It’s the same as when anyone in Ronin joins another guild's PUG. We don’t take over. The most we’ll do is leave the raid, if it’s not going well, and wish them luck. Anyone that threatens to leave if they can’t run our raid can simply leave.
kind of a tangent but since finals are done this week, i beleive there is a mid-level run with pallas this saturday morning. I will also be scheduling more runs at least this month since there is no school. Next month, i'll try to post a couple runs during the week/weekend depending when its good for our players and myself.
Does this tabard make my ass look fat?

Hey guys,
Okay first I would like to state that last saturday was much better than the week before. I understand we are all still learning and I know that we will have to just do it as we go. I believe that Neub did a great job at starting the Raid as Leader, Especially how you turn over command so to speak in order to prevent more wipes. I believe if we can get the same pug's like Sylai and Montoya and some of the others to start running with us that would be great. Just the other day Sylai was asking if we were still going this weekend I said "Hell Yeah, You coming" she said I hope too. These are the kind of connections that we need to keep.
Second, We discussed strategies and a few other points on our vent call friday night (which only four of us showed up too). One of the points brought up pertained to the Coins and Bijou's. I particularly like the idea of just need all coins and Bijou's instead of need till you get one. For one, it saves time on fights and Accidental looting and two how many no guildies do you actually think follow that rule.
Third, I think the policy that "if you do not have CT-MOD installed you are not allowed to go" helps more than we can express. CT-MOD helps especially with the bosses on MT. The next thing was the KTM ThreatMeter. Thank you Mormont. You need to know that if you are gonna aggro the Mobs and continue to DMG them then you shall pay the price. That may be up front and blunt but please.
Last, I would like to say that if you do not have vent you should not be allowed to go. Last weekend we had a person marking targets and assiting the RAID who never signed on to VENT. This are the problems that cause us some of our mistakes. We just need to atleast try to fix them as we go and I believe having an AAR is the best.
Ladies and Gentlemen you did and outstanding run this past weekend and we are on our way to start this guild only. We have so many new accounts it is awesome.
See you on...

Good Approach.

hi,
I believe Ronin displayed a committed sense of mind to the previous ZG raid. Although we still fell short of expectations, by only downing snake and bat, we still took a positive approach and showed a great maturity. Most of the raid, in other words Ronin, were paying full attention to the Raid leader/s, and were also taking in all advice from the more expirienced players and were learning from the mistakes that may have occured.
We are improving slowly but on the way we are expiriencing ways and learning how we work best together.
Dreplen,
