I think we need to let someone else take a shot at Raid leading. This isn’t meant as a slight against Rizz. He’s done a fine job but I think that, over the next weeks, anyone who wants a shot at leading a raid should get one. A shuffle in raid leaders this early in Ronin raiding is good for the guild.
Neubauten has expressed interest, as well as countless hours spent at work studying various strats. Anyone that has run the dungeons with him knows he’s quite capable of leading and, unlike me, actually enjoys that aspect of the game. With that in mind, unless there is a compelling reason why not, I say that he should run the ZG raid this weekend.
It’s clear from last week’s problems that strategies need to be discussed prior to the raid. The most effective way to do that is through the forum so please post the first 3-4 boss strats and let’s get a plan of how they will go before we get to ZG.
Let’s show those that we PUG that we know what we’re doing.

The leadership imperative

I believe that we need several people to be able to lead raids. Having a single designated raid leader is sorta like only having one person with the key to an instance. The interests of the guild are best served, IMO, by having several capable raid leaders.
I appreciate Greysea's vote of confidence, and would be happy to attempt leading this raid (if you guys will have me), with a couple of conditions:
- I would like to have the other people who are interested in leading raids get together with me on Vent Friday night to discuss strategy. The more the better. Further, I would like to have a debreifing after the raid to talk about what went right/wrong and suggest areas for improvement. Perhaps Sunday morning(?).
- I want to limit the scope of the first raid or two. I think we're better off downing the first 2 or 3 bosses than wiping repeatedly on the Bloodlord. Let's talk Friday about how far we plan to go.
- I think it would be good to let others within the guild take the raid leader role in subsequent raids. All interested parties should have an opportunity to lead a raid or two. That will give us the clearest indication over time of who our primary raid leaders should be.
On that note:
- I want to have a Raid Assist in each group. That person is going to help direct the fights, answer questions for the people in their unit, etc. That means that the Assists must be familiar with the instance and the strategy for each boss. If you are interested in an Assist position, please plan to attend the Vent chat Friday.
- I'm going to be a prick about Vent during the raid. I know that I have support on this issue, and I plan to enforce the chat rules. I'll probably make some people mad, but the happiness and success of the group as a whole are far more important to me than someone's hurt feelers. I'm going to ask our Raid Assists to help with enforcement during the raid.
If I do have the opportunity to lead this run, I would ask for your patience and tolerance. I haven't had a tremendous amount of experience leading 20-man raids (in fact, I have only led 2, against single mobs) and I may make rookie mistakes. I'm a quick learner, though, and I can take constructive criticism.
Thanks for your consideration.
